MS – Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley (MS) is a holding company providing financial services to individuals, corporations and governments across the globe including the US, Europe, Africa, Middle East & Asia. It was founded in 1924 and is headquartered in New York, New York. The company is divided into three segments: Institutional Securities; Wealth Management & Investment Management. 

The Institutional Securities segment provides capital raising and financial advisory services ranging from underwriting of securities to project financing (equity, debt, real estate and more). This includes trading of foreign exchange and commodities, corporate and commercial real estate loans & asset-backed and mortgage lending. The Wealth management segment provides various financial and advisory services to individual investors and businesses. The Investment Management segment provides investment strategies to benefit/defined contribution plans, government entities, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies and more.

MS’ large asset base is the result of its recent acquisition of Eaton Vance in 2020 for US $7 billion, as the company continues to expand its asset management business to ensure a more consistent source of income. The company recognizes the importance of digital banking and has invested in digital infrastructure to provide clients with easier access to their documents by shifting to a cloud-based system while taking steps to improve their online security.
